Status: Non-Exempt, Full-Time, Permanent
Salary Range: Starting $23,733 - 38,875.40

SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Early Childhood Development Program’s Education Coordinator-Preschool, the Teacher is responsible for providing children with a safe, comfortable environment enriched with a variety of hands on, age appropriate activities that meet best practice standards and enhances each child’s level of development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Adhere to all policies and standards as per Tribal Personnel Polices, Head Start Performance Standards, State Licensing Regulations, and all other applicable regulations pertaining to health, safety, and sanitation.
Record keeping and Reporting:
Adhere to all policies and standards pertaining to record keeping and reporting as per Tribal Personnel Policies, Head Start Performance Standards, State Licensing Regulations, and all other applicable regulations.
- Conduct and document two home visits and two Parent/Teacher conferences per school year. (headstart only)
- Complete 3 assessments per school year utilizing the Creative Curriculums Developmental Continuum. (headstart only)
- Develops and implements lesson plans to support each child’s individual progress toward developmental outcomes
- Report all incidents and accidents by completing the incident/accident form, sharing a copy with parents and placing a copy in child’s file
- Report all illnesses by completing a symptom record form, sharing one copy with parents and placing one copy in child’s file
- Reports incidences of abuse to the Ed. Coordinator immediately
- Documents anything that may affect the health, safety and/or development of the children in the classroom log.
- Informs the Ed. Coordinator of concerns involving health, safety, behavior, development and family issues of all children in their care
- Submits a monthly logs and reports to the Ed. Coordinator, that will include at a minimum, in-kind records (headstart only), daily attendance, meal counts and an educational update due by the last work day of each month
Planning:
Adhere to all policies and standards pertaining to program planning to support children’s individual progress toward developmental outcomes as per Tribal Personnel Policies, Head Start Performance Standards, State Licensing Regulations, and all other applicable regulations.
- Provide a balance of active and quiet activities
- Provide a balance of child directed and Teacher directed activities
- Establish a daily routine
- Foster independence in all aspects of the classroom routine
- Sets reasonable behavior expectations
- Follow behavior management and discipline policies
- Model proper behavior management technique
- Organize space, equipment and materials prior to activities
- Incorporate a variety of teaching techniques including modeling, observing, questioning, demonstrating and reinforcing
- Attend to the emotional needs of the children in a positive, loving and supportive manner
- Maintains open communication with parents by sharing information regarding lesson plans, suggested activities to reinforce learning, and the sharing of a monthly newsletter
- Incorporates parents into their classroom planning by using parent supplied information from child profiles and parent teacher conferences
Health, Safety, and Sanitation:
Adheres to all policies and standards as per Tribal Personnel Policies, Head Start Performance Standards, State Licensing Regulations, and all other applicable regulations pertaining to health, safety and sanitation
- Provide supervision to all children at all times
- Release children only to authorized persons
- Participate in monthly fire drills
- Monitor classrooms for potential dangers, removing broken or faulty toys and other classroom materials
- Ensure that all cleaning materials are labeled and kept out of children’s reach
- Practice and teach proper hand washing skills
- Comply with the wearing of gloves when handling food or coming in contact with bodily fluids
- Sanitize toys, individual rest mats, and classroom shelves weekly with bleach water solution
- Sanitize tables daily before and after snacks and lunch with bleach and water solution
- Review and comply with information noted in the Material Safety Date Sheets (MSDS) binder located in the hallway, outside the Program Manager’s office.
- Other duties as assigned, to ensure the most effective programming is being offered.
Professionalism:
- Maintains punctuality and regular attendance in the workplace
- Participates in all meetings / trainings as required
- Work in close relationship with the Teacher Aide and Education Coordinator on decisions having an impact on the children and their families.
- Work in close relationship with all ECDP staff to ensure comprehensive service delivery to the families.
- Work in close relationship with the parents to ensure that all needs of the children and their families are being met.
- Other duties as assigned, to ensure the most effective programming is being offered.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- An Associates, Baccalaureate or advanced degree in Early Childhood Education.
- A minimum of 3 years experience working in an Early Childhood classroom.
- Knowledge of both the Head Start and Child Care programs are considered an asset, as is knowledge of the Mohawk language and traditions.

DRUG TESTING POLICY
The successful applicant for employment must submit to a drug test for illegal substances prior to employment being confirmed. The testing is performed at the laboratory at the Alice Hyde Hospital in Malone, NY. Test results are normally received in three to five days from the date of the test. In the case of a positive result, the candidate is not eligible for employment with the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe. Employment may not begin until this process has been completed.
