Duties and Responsibilities

The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe is seeking a Forestry Technician.  Under the direction of the director and assistant director, supervises and participates in forestry management related work.  Collects and compiles data pertaining to size, content, condition, and other characteristics of forest tracts; train and lead forest workers in forest propagation, fire prevention and suppression. Assists staff in managing, improving, and protecting wildlife habitats, and helps provide technical assistance regarding the conservation of soil, water, and related natural resources. 

Qualifications:

Applicants should have completed at least an A.A.S. degree in forestry or have equivalent training or experience.  Applicants must be able to identify tree species from twig and bark samples, must be able to read a map and use a hand compass.  Experience in surveying, aerial photogrammetry, GIS or type mapping is preferred, but not required.  A valid New York State driver's license is required.  Applicants must be self-motivated and able to work under varied weather and environmental conditions.

DRUG TESTING POLICY

The successful applicant for employment must submit to a drug test for illegal substances prior to employment being confirmed.  The testing is performed at the laboratory at the Alice Hyde Hospital in Malone, NY.   Test results are normally received in three to five days from the date of the test.  In the case of a positive result, the candidate is not eligible for employment with the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe.  Employment may not begin until this process has been completed.
