SUMMARY

This position is for a GIS Technician with a GIS background that has the desire and ability to work with the detailed issues associated with a project.  A GIS Technician will be expected to perform a broad variety of GIS related tasks on a project to locate roads, water and sewer related infrastructure. This position will be  under the supervision of the Water/Wastewater Manager and/or the Construction Manager. Surveying and Construction Inspection experience is preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Demonstrate ESRI ArcGIS experience and capabilities.
  • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Work both independently and in team settings.
  • Pay attention to detail with initiative and self-motivation.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational skills.
  • Read and understand engineering sketches, drawings and documents.
  • GIS Data entry/manipulation/automation/conversion/ migration and general QA/QC procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with data quality procedures.
  • Design and produce cartographic and report products.

LIMIT OF AUTHORITY:
Has the authority to budget their own time to assure that assigned work is completed properly and in accordance with the project schedule and budget.  While it is anticipated that all work will be checked by others, they shall be responsible to assure that all assigned work is completed in accordance with appropriate design standards and is consistent with project guidelines.  The GIS Technician shall notify the Manager of unforeseen conflicts in schedule and/or workload and request work to maintain consistent workload.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • This position requires a High School diploma with 4 years GIS Experience in engineering, surveying or architecture, or an Associates (or higher) Degree with 2 years GIS experience.
  • Understanding ESRI Arc GIS is required with a general working knowledge and understanding of field survey procedures and processes and CADD experience is a plus. 
  • Experience and working knowledge of other routine computer software (word processing and spreadsheets) is also desirable.
  • Construction Inspection experience is a plus. 

REASONING ABILITY:
This person must also possess excellent listening, judgment, and organizational skills and shall have the ability to prioritize assigned work tasks, resolve problems associated with work assignments, follow through and complete assignments, and follow directions.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must be at least 21 years of age, have and maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean drivers abstract in accordance with the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Fleet Policy.
