Medical Laboratory Technician

Summary:
Perform a wide variety of Laboratory procedures on blood and other body fluids in chemistry, hematology, microbiology and clinical microscopy to obtain data for the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of disease.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform a wide variety of different procedures of varying complexity in accordance with approved techniques and standards
  • Collects specimens from patients by venipuncture and finger stick
  • Logs in and organizes the daily workload in each section
  • Maintains accuracy and precision; is aware of abnormal results on patients and controls
  • Knows what to do if quality control is not within normal standards deviations
  • Performs preventative maintenance to safeguard equipment and to verify accuracy                           
  • Maintains safe structured working arrangement, replenishes suppliers and cleans all laboratory areas routinely
  • Maintains supplies and prepares regent as required
  • Performs other duties as required

Education and/or Experience:

  • Associates degree in medical laboratory technology or equivalent.  ASCP registered or eligible
  • Medical Laboratory Technician license from the New York State Department of Health
  • Successful completion of 60 semester hours of academic credit including chemistry and biology as well as a structured curriculum in medical laboratory techniques at an accredited institution or has an associates degree based on a course study including those subjects from an accredited institution
  • Knowledgeable of procedures to do is quality control is not within normal standards deviations
  • Successful candidate must pass criminal background check and submit to a drug screening

DRUG TESTING POLICY

The successful applicant for employment must submit to and pass a drug test for illegal substances prior to employment being confirmed. Employment may not begin until this process has been completed.
