General Purpose:
Plan, direct and coordinate the academic’s of program activities required under the Johnson O’Malley Act part 273 Education contracts for elementary and or secondary levels to meet specialized and unique educational needs of eligible Indian students.
Functional Responsibilities:
- Frequently involved with activities, communicating with or providing services to students and parents of eligible students
- Determine the expense funds for staff, supplies, materials and equipment
- Authorizes purchases to effectively administer the Johnson O’Malley Program and forwards to the Education Director for final approval
- Directs and coordinates activities and provides required educational services clearly identified by the educational needs assessment of students from ages 3 years to grade 12
- Evaluates programs to determine effectiveness, efficiency and utilization and to ensure activities comply with federal and state school districts and rules and regulations of CFR Title 25 JOM component
- Project budgets according to BIA funding allocation and fulfill contractual obligations for the Tribe to BIA agency
- Responsible for JOM budget
- Submit annual and narrative reporting to BIA agency
- Submit program activities and reports to Education Director and Mohawk Indian education program
- Oversee activities provided within the school districts and remedial tutoring staff and the services required to be provided to Indian youth in the school districts
- Responsible for the overall hiring, interviewing, evaluation and termination of staff under the Johnson O’Malley program
- Coordinates meetings with other Federal programs within our service area to discuss and ensure non-duplication of services. This would include field trip meetings, group activities and assist with needs not met by programs.
- Provide incentives for our youth to show appreciation of excellence and improvement
- Coordinates activities along with staff for ASISE projects
- Works closely school personnel from Head Start, St. Regis Mohawk School, Salmon and Massena School districts
- Implement tribal policies related to staff and program
- Meets and collaborates with school districts personnel, community organizations, parent and students to plan a balanced educational and recreational program for out youth
- Assist management to resolve complaints among students
- Organize, lead and promote interest in facility activities such as sports, field trips and educational outings
- Conducts recreational activities and instructs participants to develop skills in provided activities
- Schedule facility activities and maintains record of program activity at the local school districts where eligible youth
- Enforce rules and regulation of facility, maintain discipline and ensure safety prepares contracts for utilization of gym and registration forms
- Instruct youth, individually or in groups, demonstrating sport techniques and game strategies
- Observes students participating to determine areas of deficiency and need for individual or team improvement
Educational and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree or five years related experience and/or training in a related field. Experience working with budgets and prior supervisory
- Some experience working with youth
- Certified in First Aide/CPR
- Strong writing and communication skills.
- Able to pass a criminal background check and drug screening.
- Must be at least 21 years of age, have and maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean drivers abstract in accordance with the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Fleet Policy.
