Summer Student Interns (2)
Division: Environment Division - Water Resources
Salary Range: $10.85 to 12.29 per hour
Status: 40 hours per week up to 12 weeks

Description of Position:
The positions offer students the opportunity to gain knowledge and experience in the field of natural resources. Under direction of the various programs of the Environment Division, the interns will be trained in field sampling techniques, data management, and the calibration of field instruments. By the end of the field season the interns will have an understanding of the skills required to succeed professionally in this field. Wage is linked to demonstrated experience.
Assist with fish population assessments; employ use of gill nets and seine nets; collect water, soil, and biological samples; assist with water quality assessments using calibrated instruments; complete monthly reports and properly maintain and clean equipment.
Candidate must be highly motivated, dependable and able to work well on a team. Successful applicants will be given training to carry out primary duties. Familiarity with boating, boating safety and ability to swim is recommended. The positions start May 20 and run through August 16, 2013.
Candidates must have an interest in the field of natural resources or related fields and be a current college or university student (or show an acceptance letter), in addition to the following: must be able to work long hours in the field (start at 7:00 a.m.), carry equipment over uneven terrain and willing to handle field specimens and have reliable transportation.
