2018 Tribal Budget Community Consultation Meeting Scheduled for July 13th

AKWESASNE — In accordance with the Tribal Procedures Act ratified by tribal voters in a referendum held on Ohiarí:ha/June 1, 2013; the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Council is continuing to provide financial accountability to membership in the development and adoption of the 2018 Annual Tribal Budget. Tribal members are encouraged to participate in a community consultation meeting being held on Ohiarihko:wa/July 13, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. in the Community Building Lobby.

“The July 13th meeting is not a requirement of the Tribal Procedures Act however, we think it’s important to consult and provide opportunities for tribal members to participate in developing the Annual Tribal Budget,” said Executive Director Tsiorasa Barreiro. “It represents the third year that a consultation meeting is being provided to gain input from membership on next year’s fiscal priorities.”

The 2018 Annual Tribal Budget has NOT been developed at this time; the purpose of the meeting is to gain membership’s input into the organization’s operating budget prior to its development. The July 13th consultation meeting gives tribal members a chance to give feedback on ways to improve tribal revenues, enhance program operations, identify funding priorities and other budget considerations for the coming year.

All comments and input are welcomed and contribute towards the budget’s development, with the Draft 2018 Annual Tribal Budget to be presented at a public meeting that will be held no later than November 15, 2017; as required by the Tribal Procedures Act. The presentation of the Draft Budget will then be followed by a fifteen (15) day comment period for additional comments and input from membership.

If needed, another public meeting will be held for the Tribal Council to respond to any public comments or questions received, prior to its approval and adoption by tribal council resolution.
