FOOD DISTRIBUTION

The Food Distribution Program is offered to eligible reservation residents as an alternative to the existing food stamp program administered by the local county department of Social Services. In operation since 1973, the Food Distribution Program is federally funded. Program participants are provided with food supplied by the U.S. Department of Agriculture including cheese, canned vegetables, canned meats, honey, powdered milk, eggs, rice, peanuts and peanut butter, etc. The Food Distribution Program maintains a storage warehouse and an inventory of the food commodities. A distribution system for on-site pickup and outreach delivery to eligible residents was developed and implemented by the local program as well. Approximately 200-250 households are served each month under the Food Distribution Program.
