TRIBAL COUNCIL ISSUES STATEMENT ON TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF THE AKWESASNE MOHAWK CASINO
Upgrades Are Being Made to Casino’s Power System
AKWESASNE, NY -- The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Council issued the following statement this afternoon in regards to the temporary closure of the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino. The closure is the result of ongoing improvements being made to the casino’s power system. The Tribal Council is providing the following information to keep community members and casino guests informed of developments.
On Monday evening the casino made necessary improvements to its generator in order to provide additional backup power to the facility. The improvements were completed last night and
Niagara
Mohawk tested the upgraded system. The test on the existing transformer failed due to mechanical malfunction.
Niagara
Mohawk (“National Grid”) is currently installing a new transfer, after an inspection is conducted and the casino’s electric system is approved, casino associates will be notified and guests will be able to return. An announcement will be made this evening regarding the casino’s reopening.
The Tribal Council and casino staff apologizes for the temporary inconvenience and believes the upgrades are necessary for the casino to provide continued service to its guests.
Our community experienced brownouts last year and the upgrade will help the casino to resolve this longstanding problem. The generator will provide reliable continuous standby power to the casino for the duration of any future power outages. This will make sure that the casino remains operational and avoids disruption of service for its guests.
