TRIBAL POLICE URGE TRAVELERS TO BE AWARE OF ROADWORK
Traffic Fines Doubled For Speeding In Work Zones

AKWESASNE , N.Y. – The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Police advises travelers to be aware of road work being done in Akwesasne. Work zones have been designated on Cook Road , at the intersection of Route 37 and Racquette Point/Herne Road , and additional roads that may be announced. Motorists are urged to exercise caution when traveling through these areas and to obey local traffic laws.

Installation of the three-color traffic signal and markings is currently underway at the intersection of State Route 37 with Racquette Point Road/Herne Road . The New York State Department of Transportation is undertaking this project in response to community concerns about traffic safety issues just west of the Cole-Caldwell Bridge . It is anticipated that road work in this area will be completed in four to six weeks.

The Cook Road Reconstruction Project also started two weeks ago and is scheduled to last the entire summer. At this time, work is being done in the area of Martin corner and travelers have been asked to use Tarbell Road to avoid construction. Due to the increase in traffic along Tarbell Road , motorists are urged to obey the posted speed limit.

The Tribal Police would like to remind travelers that road construction can sometimes prevent them from driving the posted speed limit. They ask everyone to drive carefully when traveling along any road in the community and are notifying travelers that fines for speeding are doubled in work zones.

Motorists are also asked to be aware of school buses and to remain alert when they are operating in the community.

The Tribal Police appreciates the community’s cooperation in making sure that our roads are safe for all travelers.
