RIVER
SCHOOL
BOARD ELECTION ON MAY 16TH
Community Members Urged to Exercise Their Right to Vote
AKWESASNE
,
N.Y.
The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Education Committee is encouraging all Akwesasne community members to vote in next Tuesday's Salmon River School Board election. The community's support is needed to ensure our Mohawk students continue to be properly represented in the
Salmon River
School District
. Jessica Cree-Alvarez is looking to join Akwesasne residents Stacey Adams, Corrina Bero, Ben Kelley, Emily Lauzon, and James Ransom as a member of the School Board.
Jessica Cree-Alvarez is vying for the School Board seat that will be vacated by Marion Elliot. Cree-Alvarez has dedicated her time to working with youth and is seeking an opportunity to help provide a supportive educational environment for students. Her experience as a board member of the Akwesasne Boys and Girls Club, as well as a coach for North Franklin Soccer, makes her qualified to represent the interests of parents and to oversee the educational instruction of our children.
The
Salmon River
Central
School District
is one of 13 districts in
New York
State
that provides education to Native American students. It is the only one however, where the majority of the student population is Native. A vote for Jessica Cree-Alvarez will help give our children the representation they need and deserve.
Voting for Jessica Cree Alvarez on May 16th will ensure that Mohawk tradition, culture and language continue to be preserved and promoted in the school system. Your vote supports our student's achievements in an environment that is fair and respects diversity.
