TRIBE TO HOST GRADUATE LEVEL COURSE FOR THE UPCOMING SEMESTER
St. Lawrence University to Offer Education Class Beginning September 6th

AKWESASNE , N.Y. — The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe and St. Lawrence University are teaming up to offer another graduate-level course that can apply towards earning a Masters Degree in Education. EDPS 550B, Human Development and Life Span Counseling, is a fourteen week course that begins on Tuesday, September 6, 2005 .

“We’re pleased that St. Lawrence University is providing another master’s course at the Tribal Building this semester,” said Rod Cook, Director of the Tribe’s Higher Education Department. “Offering courses locally makes it easier for our community members to take advantage of this opportunity and advance their education. It has helped a number of Akwesasne residents to successfully obtain their Masters Degree.”

Shannon Jordan will be the instructor and classes will meet every Tuesday from 4 to 6:45 p.m. in the upstairs boardroom of the Tribe’s Community Building . Students can register at the first day of class, or by contacting Rod Cook at 358-2272 (ext. 215) before September 6th.

Human Development and Life Span Counseling is a three-credit course that will offer instruction on life developmental stages, from infancy through late adulthood.  Major theories of human development and counseling will be reviewed, as well as transitional issues and developmental topics.

Each of the local courses offered by St. Lawrence University is required for completion of a Masters Degree program. The programs include General Education Studies, Counseling, and School Administration. Typically, one course is offered per semester at the Tribe with an enrollment of approximately 10 and 20 students.
