The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Partridge House would like to invite all community members to an open house on November 22nd from
10:00am
to
2:00pm
. The event will be held at their facility on
St. Regis Road
and will include a ribbon cutting ceremony for their new women’s wing.
According to Clinical Director of the Partridge House Daniel Jacobs, “The additional space will help the Partridge House to provide services specific to the needs of the women in the facility.” He added, “This project was made possible through the combined efforts of the Akwesasne Housing Authority, the New York State Office of Alcoholism Substance Abuse Services, and the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe.”
The wing will provide female cliental with a gender sensitive environment to begin the on-going process of recovery. The additional space will enable women to address feminine issues more thoroughly through traditional talking circles, gender groups, and additional healing therapies.
Construction of the 3,168-square-feet addition to the Partridge House was completed in nine-months by the Akwesasne Housing Authority and will house six (6) female clients, in addition to the original ten (10) bed wing being designated for male clients. The expansion project was made possible with $450,000 in funding it received from the Akwesasne Housing Authority, the New York State Office of Alcoholism Substance Abuse Services, and the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe.
The Partridge House is an inpatient alcoholism and chemical dependency rehabilitation facility located on the St. Regis Mohawk Reservation. Funded through Indian Health Services and the
St.
Regis Mohawk Tribe, the facility has been in operation since 1983 offering either 56-day or 70-day programs. Their treatment programs integrate Native culture and spirituality with traditional methods such as the Minnesota Model, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Enhancement Therapy.
“We’re pleased with the additional services the Partridge House will be able to provide to its female clients,” said Tribal Chief Barbara Lazore. She noted, “It’s important that a comfortable environment be provided to help women in the on-going process of recovery that leads to a happier and healthier lifestyle.”
