TRIBE SPONSORS ESSAY CONTEST ON TRIBAL LEADERSHIP
AKWESASNE– The St. Regis Mohawk Tribe has announced that it is sponsoring an essay contest to gain insights and input from Mohawk college students on the topic of governance.
Students working towards an associate’s or bachelor’s degree, attending community college or a four-year college or university are eligible to enter the contest. The essay contest is titled: The Next Generation: If I was Chief… Students are asked to write a minimum of 1200 words on the issue of tribal leadership and governance and consider several questions including: What priorities would you focus on? (If you were chief); How would you govern the Tribe?; and What changes in governance would you make?
The Tribe has established monetary awards for the three best essays. First prize is $1,000; second prize is $500; and third prize is $250.
The deadline for submissions is Friday, January 11, 2008 at 4 p.m. to the Public Information Office located in the Tribal Building. Questions can be directed to Leslie Logan or Aimee Benedict at 358-2272.
