SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Mental Health Director, the Child and Youth Clinic Coordinator will oversee project and grant activities for the Akwesasne Youth Suicide Prevention (GLS) project, provide administrative supervision of staff providing mental health services to children and youth, and work with MH Director to assist in operations and oversee clinic based and satellite MH Outpatient clinics.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES the Child and Youth Clinic Coordinator will work within guidelines of the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration and Indian Health Services as well as Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe Mental Health Services and New York State Office of Mental Health standards of care, policies and procedures and, internal control standards and objectives by performing the following duties:
- Exhibit a friendly, respectful and courteous manner when dealing with clients, fellow employees and associates.
- Maintain confidentiality according to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
- Work as Clinic Coordinator of the Child and Youth Mental Health Services which includes the Akwesasne Youth Suicide Prevention Project, to carry out the goals and objectives of expanding behavioral health services for Akwesasne youth ages 24 and younger.
- Develop relationships with key partners and provide screening, education, and attend meetings with project partners and supervise project staff in providing screening, referral, treatment and care coordination for youth. Clinic Coordinator will supervise project and school based staff and ensure reporting of data to funding sources.
- Maintain and review client records and other required reports.
- Establish collaborative working relationships and coordinate service delivery with other youth serving agencies, including schools.
- Coordinate and implement educational activities to provide to the community. Attending community events as a representative of Mental Health and Akwesasne Youth Suicide Prevention program.
- Outreach and Screening: Oversee and provide mental health information and screenings at Head Start, local schools, local colleges, Akwesasne Girls and Boys Club, and community events.
- Facilitate focus groups and community talking circles/meetings when needed.
- Work with Mental Health team to promote outreach and engagement of youth and their families into services.
- Participate and assist with grant activities, planning meetings and evaluation, attending webinars and trainings, including travel to grantee meetings, if necessary.
- Attend the Akwesasne Suicide Prevention Committee and other meetings regarding youth.
- Work with Mental Health Director to ensure clinics operations and NYSOMH standards of care are met.
- Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide administrative supervision to Child/Youth Mental Health Therapists, Child/Youth Care Coordinator, Traditional Support Worker and Administrative Assistant.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Associates Degree in Health or Human Services fields. Bachelor Degree Preferred. 1-year experience providing administrative supervision.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Strong oral and written communication skills required. Must have good computer skills including, Microsoft Applications, and ability to navigate various scheduling and electronic health record programs. Openness in working with traditional/spiritual approaches regarding behavioral health issues. Ability to do presentations, represent the mental health program and connect with people. Familiarity with Akwesasne Community. Interest in obtaining additional training/education in suicide prevention, intervention and postvention.
REASONING ABILITY: Maturity and ability to handle delicate role issues and to respond to crisis.

The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe Health Services has adopted a “Vaccination Policy” that requires ONLY Health Service employees to be “Fully Vaccinated” against the Coronavirus. The Vaccine requirement DOES NOT apply to positions that are not Health Services employees. Health Service Applicants are not required to disclose their vaccination status at the time of application; however, they must do so upon becoming the successful candidate.
