Status: Full-time, permanent, non-exempt

Under the general direction of the ECDP Supervisor, the Child Care Teacher is responsible for providing children with a safe, comfortable environment enriched with a variety of hands on, age-appropriate activities that meet best practice standards and enhance each child’s level of development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Adhere to all policies, standards, and procedures as dictated by Tribal Personnel Policies, NYS OCFS Child Care Licensing Regulations, the ECDP Behavior Management Plan, the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct, and all other applicable regulations pertaining to health, safety and sanitation.
  • Develop and implement weekly lesson plans to meet the developmental outcomes outlined in the curriculum and submit to the Education Coordinator as designated.
  • Ensure developmentally appropriate practices at all times and utilize quality tools such as NYS Early Learning Guidelines and the Environmental Rating Scales.
  • Report all incidents, injuries, and accidents to the Nurse and/or your Supervisor.
  • Allegations of abuse must be reported according to OCFS Child Care Regulations and Mandated Reporter guidelines and subsequently reported to the Program Manager.
  • Maintain and submit accurate monthly documentation in a timely manner to the appropriate personnel; including daily attendance, daily log, and reports to the Education Coordinator.
  • Establish a daily routine in individual classroom environment, incorporating a variety of teaching techniques including modeling, observing, questioning, demonstrating and reinforcing.
  • Maintain open communication with parents by sharing information regarding lesson plans and suggesting activities to reinforce learning.
  • Participate and assist in facilitating classroom procedures during monthly fire and shelter in place drills.
  • Document and relay concerns regarding the progress of any individual child to the Nurse and Education Coordinator for possible referral for additional services.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and empowerment to the Teacher Assistants.
  • Assign Teacher Assistants tasks in relations to weekly lesson plans and the daily schedule.
  • Communicate effectively with Teacher Assistants to ensure duties are completed.
  • Handle concerns and complaints expeditiously and effectively as outlined in Tribal Personnel Policies.
  • Completes other duties as assigned by your Supervisor, Education Coordinator, and Program Manager.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of a CDA (Child Development Associate) and two years of experience caring for children, one of which must be related to caring for infants and toddlers.
  • Knowledge of the Mohawk language and traditions would be an asset.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Strong oral and written communication skills required. Must have excellent computer skills including word, excel, and experience with varying databases.
