Under the general direction of the ECDP Supervisor, the Child Care Teacher Assistant is responsible for providing children with a safe, comfortable environment, enriched with a variety of hands-on, age-appropriate activities that meet best practice standards and enhance each child’s level of development.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Adhere to all policies, standards, and procedures as dictated by Tribal Personnel Policies, NYS OCFS Child Care Licensing Regulations, the ECDP Behavior Management Plan, the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct, and all other applicable regulations pertaining to health, safety and sanitation.
- Assist in the development and implement weekly lesson plans to meet the developmental outcomes outlined in the curriculum and submit to the Education Coordinator as designated.
- Report all incidents, injuries, accidents or allegations of abuse to the Nurse and/or Supervisor. Complete necessary documentation and forward to designated personnel.
- Document in the classroom log and inform the teacher and appropriate personnel of any issues that may affect the development of the children.
- Assist in maintaining and submitting accurate monthly documentation in a timely manner to the appropriate personnel; including daily attendance, daily log, and reports to the Education Coordinator.
- Assist in establishing a daily routine in individual classroom environments, incorporating a variety of teaching techniques including modeling, observing, questioning, demonstrating and reinforcing.
- Maintain open communication with parents by sharing information regarding lesson plans, suggesting activities to reinforce learning.
- Participate and assist in facilitating classroom procedures during monthly fire drills.
- Communicate effectively with classroom staff to ensure duties are completed.
- Handle concerns and complaints expeditiously and effectively as outlined in Tribal Personnel Policies.
- Complete other duties as assigned by your Teacher, Supervisor, Education Coordinator and Program Manager.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: There are no supervisor requirements for this position.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma or its equivalent is required.
- Applicant must be willing to pursue CDA (Child Development Associate) or Early Childhood Education Associates within 2 years of employment.
- Preferred one year of experience working in an early childhood setting.
- Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.
- Knowledge of the Mohawk language and traditions is an asset.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Strong oral and written communication skills required. Must have excellent computer skills including word, excel, and experience with varying databases.
