SUMMARY: The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for Analyze and record test data to issue reports that use charts, graphs, or narratives. Analyze the results of tests or experiments to ensure conformity to specifications, using special mechanical or electrical devices. Collect blood or tissue samples from patients, observing principles of asepsis to obtain blood sample. Conduct blood tests for transfusion purposes and perform blood counts. Conduct chemical analyses of body fluids, such as blood or urine, using microscope or automatic analyzer to detect abnormalities or diseases and enter findings into computer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyze laboratory findings.
  • Analyze laboratory specimens to detect abnormalities or other problems.
  • Analyze test data or images to inform diagnosis or treatment.
  • Clean medical equipment or facilities.
  • Collect biological specimens from patients.
  • Conduct research to increase knowledge about medical issues.
  • Cultivate micro-organisms for study, testing, or medical preparations.
  • Enter patient or treatment data into computers.
  • Inform medical professionals regarding patient conditions and care.
  • Maintain medical laboratory equipment.
  • Operate laboratory equipment to analyze medical samples.
  • Prepare biological specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Prepare medical supplies or equipment for use.
  • Supervise technical medical personnel.
  • Test biological specimens to gather information about patient conditions.
  • Train medical providers.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 1-year minimum experience working as a laboratory technician preferred

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Associate’s degree in medical lab technician and NYS certification

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Strong oral and written communication skills required. Must have excellent computer skills, including word and excel.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
