Summary: To work in conjunction with the A/CDP Prevention Coordinator in the development and implementation of the Alcoholism/Chemical Dependency Program’s Prevention Component of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Health Services:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Follow proper procedures and compliance requirements of the Federal SAMHSA Drug Free Community and SRMT Health Services Personnel Manual.
  • Responsible for the proper data entry of all grant-related data and Federal SAMHSA reporting requirements.
  • Promote and work in a team-based setting to meet program goals.
  • Administer the Prevention Needs Survey that identifies community needs.
  • Responsible for implementing procedures for prevention education activities in the local school systems, community, businesses, workplace and with parents.
  • Facilitate Prevention school curriculum and activities, when needed.
  • In conjunction with the Prevention Coordinator, monitor the Adolescent Education Component, check files and other necessary forms for completeness.
  • Ensure grant activity compliance for the Federal SAMHSA Drug Free Community.
  • Provide supervision to Prevention Education Program staff members and make recommendations regarding training initiatives, job performance, and disciplinary actions.
  • In coordination with the Prevention Coordinator, supervise and guide all interns and volunteers involved with A/CDP Prevention Component.
  • Provide Monthly, Quarterly, and Annual reports to the A/CDP Prevention Coordinator.
  • Initiate purchasing requests for spending grant funding for approval.
  • Attend all committee meetings and staff meetings as a representative of the A/CDP Prevention.
  • Coordinate media campaigns to promote Prevention initiatives and strengthen social norm change thru radio, billboards, flyers, newspaper and social media.
  • To perform other duties as may arise. 

Supervisory Responsibilities: Responsible for the direct supervision of A/CDP Prevention Educators.

Qualification Requirements: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Due to the sensitive nature of information maintained within the office, must maintain strict confidentiality at all times. 

Must have a thorough understanding of the disease concept of alcoholism, and how the disease affects the family and Native American communities in general. Must have a strong understanding of the 12-step based treatment process and prevention strategies. Must have two years of sobriety for a recovering person. Must not abuse alcohol and/or any other drug for a non-recovering person.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Minimum of an Associate’s Degree, AND
  • Two (2) years’ experience in the provision of alcoholism/chemical dependency prevention services OR
  • One-(1) year supervisory experience, preferred.

If certified through New York State OASAS, must maintain certification. If not certified, must work towards certification in an appropriate time frame, and maintain certification.

Other Skills and Abilities: Strong listening, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills required. Must have excellent computer skills. Possess individual and group counseling skills. Knowledge of computer applications is preferred. Work in a team-based setting.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.

Must be at least 18 years of age, have and maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean driver abstract in accordance with the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Fleet Policy.

The successful candidate must pass a test for illegal substances prior to employment being confirmed.
