SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Behavioral Health Director, the Mental Health Director, requiring advanced degrees and licensure, will provide supervision of the day to day operations of the Mental Health program. The Mental Health Director will work within the guidelines of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe Mental Health Services policies and procedures, internal control standards, New York State Office of Mental Health regulations and standards of care by performing the following duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Exhibit a friendly and courteous manner when dealing with clients, fellow employees and associates.
  • - Assists the Director and Assistant Director of the Saint Regis Mohawk Health Services in preparation of annual service plans and budget for the Mental Health Clinic.
  • - Assists in the continuous development and review of Agency programs, services, and operations in accordance with appropriate codes, rules and regulations.
  • - Supervises the day-to-day operation of the mental health services, i.e. facilitates treatment planning conference, clinical and personnel supervision etc.
  • - Provides technical and clinical consultation to schools and other programs.
  • - Coordinates services with other agencies.
  • - Maintains an up to date policy and procedures manual.
  • - Provides direct clinical services for a small case load which includes maintaining client records and other reports according to NYSOMH standards of care.
  • - Responsible for staff coverage and scheduling.
  • - Provides crisis intervention and sharing mobile emergency and on-call duty.
  • - Provide case management as necessary.
  • - Perform utilization review by monitoring client records.
  • - Refers clients and their families to community resources to assist in their recovery and to provide advocacy.
  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide supervision of staff in Mental Health Department.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: New York State Licensure as a LMSW, LCSW or LMHC. Four years post-Master's experience in the Mental Health field.

Two years of which are in administrative or supervisory level preferred.

Knowledge of mental health counseling/psychotherapy.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Minimum – MSW, MSN, or a Master's degree in counseling, psychology, or health related field with the appropriate clinical experience in a mental health setting. Licensed Clinical Social Worker with R, preferred. Experience working within the behavioral health field. Familiarity with Akwesasne Community. Interest in obtaining additional training/education in Behavioral Health.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Strong oral and written communication skills required. Must have good computer skills including, Word, and ability to navigate various scheduling and electronic health record programs. Computer testing in the applicable skills may be a requirement during the interview process. Openness in working with traditional/spiritual approaches regarding behavioral health issues. Ability to do presentations, represent the mental health program and connect with people.
