Summary: Under the direction of the (Akwesasne Travel Manager), the Travel Trade Specialist will manage Akwesasne Travel’s travel trade development and marketing efforts. The Travel Trade Specialist will be responsible for managing the B2B (business to business) marketing guided by the Akwesasne Travel Destination Marketing and Management Organization Business Plan.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Responsible for developing and managing B2B relationships and partnerships to market Akwesasne travel predominantly through travel trade shows and events.
  • Responsible for coordinating sales contracts with travel trade partners, working closely with the Akwesasne Travel Manager and Training Manager to ensure the maximum benefit for Akwesasne tourism suppliers and businesses.
  • Attend travel trade events, spearhead trade communication, and facilitate familiarization trips and package tours.
  • Develop appealing tour packages with local and regional partners to promote visitation to the area.
  • Participate in the coordination of tour testing; local and regional stakeholders’ participation, familiarization tour coordination – regional partners and travel media outlets.
  • Conduct research, compile and analyze tourism data and prepare, modify and present various reports, documents and presentations as needed.
  • Pursue opportunities to promote tourism development; speaking and presenting engagements on local, regional and national platforms/events.
  • Assist the Training Manager with the development and marketing of new tour experiences.
  • Work with Training Manager to assist new and existing partners with individual marketing support, tour marketing, best practices, and other relevant duties.
  • Work with the Marketing Specialist to manage existing marketing assets; website, social media pages and e-newsletter.
  • Assist with creating Akwesasne Travel marketing materials such as brochures, tour posters, sales catalogs, sell sheets, and advertisements.
  • Review and assess current marketing content calendar.
  • Assist with the production of live broadcasts, promotional videos and other content targeting the travel trade.
  • Participate in community engagement activities; CKON radio shows, Indian Time Newspaper, occasionally posting on Akwesasne Travel social media pages, assist in coordinating in-person events, etc.
  • Provide aid in other areas of tourism activities and initiatives.
  • Provides excellent communication skills, written and oral.
  • Serves as a representative of Akwesasne Travel, and supports Akwesasne tourism initiatives.
  • Willing to travel for trainings, conferences, presentations and trade shows.
  • Follow Akwesasne Travel and SRMT policy and procedures.
  • Share relevant information obtained with colleagues including Office of Economic Development (OED) that can assist with their assigned duties and for the betterment of Akwesasne businesses.
  • Assist in the management of OED grants and related reporting requirements as assigned.
  • Perform basic cross-functional duties when needed in order to maintain operational efficiency of the tourism team.
  • Facilitate guided tours on occasion
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position holds no supervisory responsibility.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Tourism & Hospitality, related field and 3-5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Professional certification in Hospitality, Tourism & Service Industry is an asset. Upon hire, must work toward and obtain both, or equivalent certifications.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Must be at least 18 years of age, have and maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean driver abstract in accordance with the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Fleet Policy.
