Salary Range: $31,241.60 to 51,355.20 ($15.02 to 24.69)
Status: Full-time, non-exempt, Intern
The Water Resources Technician-Intern (or Intern) will carry out studies and participate in activities related to the protection and restoration of Tribal fish and water resources. The Intern will assist with the collection of data under the guidance of a Technician. The Intern will contribute to projects related to water quality, wetlands and fisheries. The Intern must take all necessary steps to maintain a safe work environment, ensure accuracy of information and be responsible for the short and long-term storage of data.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities include the following:
- Use various gear types to collect fish: e.g. seine, gillnet, electro-fishing, etc.
- Collection of data for fish population assessment
- Collection of water, soil, sediment and biological samples
- Keep accurate and detailed field notes
- Maintain sample chain of custody
- Use of water quality monitoring instruments
- Cleaning, care and maintenance program supplies and equipment
- Comply with Quality Assurance Project Plans and Standard Operating Procedures
- Attend staff meetings
- Attend meetings with non-tribal entities related to water resources
- Other tasks pertaining to the Water Resources Program mission
Supervisory Responsibilities: There are no supervisor requirements for this position.
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The position requires physical exertion including the ability to carry equipment over uneven terrain and lifting or pulling nets. The ability to swim preferred and a boater’s safety certificate is preferred.
Education And/Or Experience: Applicants must be currently enrolled in a college or university in the field of natural resources.
Language Skills: Ability to read, understand and synthesize scientific information in reports and sampling plans.
Mathematical Skills: The ability to perform basic statistical tests and analyze data is required; ability to format for storage and display data in tables or charts.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve problems to effectively complete work plan objectives; anticipate and mitigate sources of uncertainty in the field.
Must be at least 18 years of age, have and maintain a valid driver’s license with a clean drivers abstract in accordance with the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Fleet Policy.
