Tribal Sub-Chief Cheryl Jacobs
Cheryl Jacobs attended Centennial College and SUNY Cortland in the Recreation Leadership field. She served in the United States Marine Corps as a Corporal and was a Sergeant in the US Army.
She joined the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Service as one of the first female police officers from 1990 to 1999. She left policing and pursued a career in gaming working for the Tribal Gaming Commission and the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino. While employed in Indian Gaming, she worked primarily in the compliance, surveillance, training and regulatory fields.
Cheryl served as District Chief of Kawehnoke from 2006-2009 with the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne. She participated on several local sports teams and coached volleyball, basketball and lacrosse. She currently serves on the Akwesasne Area Management Board as the Vice-President.
Cheryl has been a Court Administrator with the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne after recently completing Law Clerk studies. The justice services available to the community is an area she’d like to closely study and examine while serving on Tribal Council, believing that, as one community, we should also take the time to learn what is working and what can be done better.
