Improvements and Upgrades at Tribe’s Transfer Station

Community Services to Expand
Akwesasne Territory -- The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Solid Waste Management program is very pleased to announce some staffing changes within the program. They are aimed at improving solid waste services for the community.
Effective Onerahtokha/April 2, 2012 the Transfer Station will be employing two new Scale House Attendants, a Recycling Coordinator and dedicating a staff person to route collections. These changes are being made to focus attention on critical areas of operations, improve services and provide direct technical assistance to the Tribal community, organizations departments and enterprises.
The Scale House Attendant will be the first person to greet customers when they arrive at the Transfer Station. He will focus on providing fast and friendly service, directing customers to proper drop off locations and accurate billing. He will also provide the latest information about Solid Waste program services.
The Recycling Coordinator will help improve community-wide participation in recycling and composting. The Coordinator will be responsible for setting recycling and composting targets for the community and providing direct technical assistance to individuals, organizations, Tribal departments and enterprises to meet those targets. The Recycling Coordinator will be working toward certification in load inspection and composting technologies.
The Refuse Route Driver will be responsible for collecting blue bags from residential customers and collecting materials from bins at Tribal buildings and business customers on a regular basis. The Refuse Route Driver will also pickup recyclables from the Recycling Depot located in Akwesasne across the street from Wild Bills.
The Transfer Station Operations Supervisor will focus on leading the Transfer Station team to meet customer service expectations, answer and respond to customer concerns and ensure that staff has the resources to work safely and efficiently.
Overall, the Solid Waste Program and Transfer Station Operations are focusing on ways to improve its services to the community, reach and sustain efficient business operations and adapt to changes. The Transfer Station is starting an electronic or E-waste collection program that benefits the community by having a place to dispose of electronic items at no cost. The Transfer Station now has a signature key pad that allows charge customers to electronically sign charge slips making billing easier for both the customer and for the Billing Clerk.
The Transfer Station will be studying ways to improve its services in the coming months by analyzing market conditions, disposal options and developing new services.
