No Settlement in Place Regarding Tribe’s Boundary

Leaders from the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe are clarifying information recently released to the public concerning negotiations involving New York State, St. Lawrence and Franklin counties.

“The Tribe received inquiries as a result of recently issued information about settlement negotiations between the State of New York, St. Lawrence County, Franklin County and the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe related to the status of certain lands,” said Allyson Doctor, Director of Communications at the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe. “We can assure you that no settlement agreement has been reached. While the resolution of litigation related to the boundary of our territory is a priority for our people, any suggestion of an actual agreement at this time is both inaccurate and inappropriate.” The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe will present an update on the land claim settlement negotiations this weekend at its monthly community meeting on Saturday.

The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe is one of the North Country’s leading economic engines. The tribe currently employs 1,600 people at its various enterprises, including the Akwesasne Mohawk CasinoResort
