Akwesasne - The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe Election Board has certified the results from the July 13, 2013 Special Election. In accordance with Tribal Council Resolution 2013-21, the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe Election and Referendum Ordinance, the Election Board denied appeals filed on July 15, 16 and 19, 2013.

Following the Special Election, the Election Board received four separate appeals. Two appeals were received on Friday, July 19, 2013 while one appeal was filed on July 15, 2013 and the other on July 16, 2013. The Election Board then provided hearing dates for each appeal and based on the factual information provided, was given five days to render a decision. Each appellant was given the opportunity to meet with the Election Board to discuss their appeal.

Please note, one appellant was granted an extension by the Election Board and was not met with until Tuesday, July 30, 2013.

In a document titled, Final Report of Special Election Appeals, the Election Board has addressed each appeal based on their merit and subsequently identified the claim as either not pursuant to the “ordinance” or has stated each as “wholly inaccurate and is hereby dismissed.” The report is available at www.srmt-nsn.gov in PDF version.

With the decision final and signed by each Election Board member, the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe will welcome Beverly Cook and re-elected Sub-Chief Shelley Jacobs. Each will begin their three-year term after the completion of the Swearing-In Ceremony. The date for the ceremony has yet to be determined by Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Council.
