May 13, 2013

On Saturday, May 11, 2013 the following SRMT members were sworn in as Commissioners for the first Ethics Commission for the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe. Ethics Officer Peter Garrow gave the oath of office to Sally Marie Hamelin, Alma Cecilia Ransom, Minerva C. White, Wanda Ann Patterson and Barbara A. Lazore. Garrow swore in the members at the regularly scheduled monthly tribal meeting. Mark Charles Martin was unable to attend the meeting, but Garrow swore him in as a Commissioner on Monday, May 13, 2013. “This has been a long process, but I feel we are moving in the right direction,” noted Garrow. “Our first priority as an Ethics Commission will be to recommend amendments to the current Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Ethics Ordinance TCR 2007-61.

The tribal Ethics Commission will bring forward the amendments to the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal membership for approval at a series of three public meetings. “These friendly amendments will clarify certain sections of the Ordinance,” said Garrow. “They will allow for the Ethics Commission to be an effective oversight of elected tribal officials of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe and to hear complaints when necessary.
