Second Round of Water Line Repairs Closes Tribal Offices

Aug 28, 2014

Boil Water Advisory Will Remain in Effect

Akwesasne, NY – The repairs to the Tribe’s water line system have not been completed this morning as hoped. The two new breaks occurred near the Tribe’s Health Services facility and across State Route 37 at Okwarine Road. These locations are just west of yesterday’s break. Businesses and residences on State Route 37 between the American Legion and the former LBM Lumber area will be without water service until the line is repaired.

Once the repairs have been completed, water will need to be re-tested due to the new breaks. The results will take another 24 to 48 hours. All water received through the Tribe's waterline will remain under the boil water advisory until results have confirmed the water is safe for consumption. Water should be brought to a boil for one minute then cooled before drinking it, preparing food, making ice, serving to pets or washing dishes by hand.

THURSDAY – Clinic closing and sending ALL staff home 11:00 a.m.

THURSDAY- Tribal buildings without water (From Police to White Rd) closing at 11:00 a.m. today. All other Tribal buildings remain open that have water.

FRIDAY- All Tribal Buildings, including Clinic, are open unless no water. Please listen to radio and check SRMT Facebook page and website.

Because of the water boil advisory Health Service appointments may be altered. Please call ahead for more information prior to your appointment.

24 Hour Operations including Law Enforcement will be unaffected.

All Tribal programs and offices in the affected areas will close until the Water Department completes the repairs. Community members are asked to call Health Services to confirm whether their appointments have been rescheduled.
