SRMT Police Commission Appoints Acting Chief of Police

The SRMT Police Commission Act of 2014 authorizes the Police Commission to oversee and manage the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Police. The Chief of Police reports directly to the Police Commission. On Friday, May 23, 2014 the Police Commission appointed Matthew Rourke as the Acting Chief of Police. The Police Commission is comprised of five community members; it is their express role to ensure any community issues that have developed are heard and responded to for the benefit of the Akwesasne community, and to do so with integrity and confidentiality.
