Fall Tribal Heating Assistance Available September 1st

Akwesasne – The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe has made an allotment of fuel assistance available to help tribal members with the upcoming heating season. The fall heating assistance is available for those members who have completed an application or previously received tribal fuel assistance in Tsiothohrkó:wa/January 2018. The fall heating assistance does not require tribal households to re-apply however, it is only available from Seskehkó:wa/September 1, 2018 to Tsiothóhrha/December 9, 2018.

“We are proud to continue making this fuel assistance available for the upcoming heating season,” said Compliance Director Elliott Lazore. He added, “In order to help as many households as possible through the Tribal Heating Assistance Program, we are asking low-income households to contact the Tribe’s Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program at (518) 358-2272 extension 2212 to see if they qualify to first receive LIHEAP.”

For those who do not qualify for LIHEAP, eligible tribal households will receive the following fall heating assistance beginning on Seskehkó:wa/September 1, 2018:

  • Tribal members who are 60-years of age and older are eligible to receive $600.
  • Tribal members who are 59-years of age or less are eligible to receive $300.

The tribal heating assistance is available to provide fuel oil, kerosene, propane, wood, wood pellets or electrical service. Tribal members need to contact their tribally licensed fuel supplier directly to arrange delivery. Should you have wood or wood pellets as a heating source, you will be contacted for delivery or pickup in mid-September. If you have changed your fuel supplier or primary heat source, please contact the Tribe’s Compliance Department at (518) 358-2272 to make arrangements.

The Tribal Heating Assistance Program provides fuel assistance to 1,601 tribal households; which is an increase of 137 new households compared to the previous year. It is a tribal program continuing to be made available through the SRMT Community Support Fund, with revenue generated from the Tribe’s gaming enterprises and tribally licensed businesses.
