Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe Presents Draft 2019 Annual Tribal Budget

Nov 2, 2018

AKWESASNE — In accordance with the Tribal Procedures Act ratified by tribal voters in a community referendum held on Ohiarí:ha/June 1, 2013; the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe is continuing to provide financial accountability to membership in the development and adoption of the organization’s Annual Tribal Budget. The Tribe will be convening a public meeting in the Community Building Lobby on Kentenhkó:wa/November 15, 2018 to present and explain the Draft 2019 Annual Tribal Budget.

Prior to the development of the Annual Tribal Budget, a special meeting was held on Ohiarihkó:wa/July 19, 2018 for consultation to take place with tribal members as part of the budget process. The consultation session was an additional measure to the Tribal Procedures Act and provided an opportunity for membership to identify funding priorities and give input on ways to improve tribal revenues; including enhancing operating efficiencies and other considerations.

“The July 19th meeting was not a requirement of the 2013 Tribal Procedures Act however, consulting and obtaining input from membership on the community’s funding priorities continues to be an important part of the budgeting process,” said Executive Director Tsiorasa Barreiro. “It represents the third year that a consultation meeting is being provided to give community members an opportunity to participate at the beginning of the Annual Tribal Budget’s development.”

The feedback received from tribal members during the community consultation meeting contributed toward the Draft 2019 Annual Tribal Budget that is being made available upon request for tribal members to review. Beginning this week, tribal members were able to request a copy from the Community Building’s main reception desk prior to the first public meeting on November 15th.

Following the Kentenhkó:wa/November 15th public meeting, tribal members will have fifteen (15) days to provide any written questions, comments or concerns about the Draft 2019 Annual Tribal Budget. Comments may be dropped off at the Community Building or mailed to: Office of the Executive Director, 412 State Route 37, Akwesasne NY 13655.

Upon receipt of any written comments, a second public meeting will be scheduled for responses to be provided — tentatively scheduled for 5:00 p.m. in the Community Building Lobby on Tsiothóhrha/December 7, 2018. Following the meeting, the Draft 2019 Annual Tribal Budget will be presented to the Tribal Council for approval and adoption by tribal council resolution during their weekly work session scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on Tsiothóhrha/December 12, 2018.
