St. Regis River Flood Watch Advisory – January 22, 2018

Jan 22, 2018

AKWESASNE—The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Planning Office is notifying local residents that the flood watch remains in effect for the following low-lying areas along the St. Regis River: St. Regis Road, North Street, Cree Road, Mose Cook Road and portions of Cook Road (near the Fountain Woods campground).

The flood watch remains in effect due to the forecast for mild weather and mixed precipitation during the next 24 hours.

A flood watch means that there is the potential for flooding. It does not mean that flooding will occur...it only means it is possible. It is also a recommendation for affected residents to plan, prepare, and increase awareness.

To assist homeowners, volunteers canvassed the flood watch area on Friday, January 19th to distribute preparedness pamphlets to 140 households. Homeowners should be proactive and follow the instructions contained in the brochure. A copy of the pamphlet is available to download from the Tribe’s Facebook page and website at www.srmt-nsn.gov.

Please continue to listen and be alert for changing weather conditions and for further information on 97.3fm CKON and the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Facebook page.

The Emergency Planning Office thanks everyone who is helping keep our community safe during the flood watch; including the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Police Department, the Hogansburg-Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department, as well as tribal staff and community members who assisted with sandbags.

The situation continues to be monitored, but it you require assistance please call the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Police at (518) 358-9200.
