Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe Recognizes Kahnawá:ke Grand Chief Joe Norton’s Passing

AKWESASNE -- It is with great sadness that the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Council learned of the passing of former-Mohawk Council of Kahnawá:ke Grand Chief Joe Norton. On behalf of the Tribe, we send our deepest condolences and mourn with the community of Kahnawá:ke, as well as join in celebrating his extraordinary life and devotion towards improving the overall wellbeing of all Kahnawákeró:non. His tireless efforts as Kahnawá:ke’s Grand Chief for nearly 30 years is inspirational and stands as testament that his life was caring for his community. His passing is a loss for all of us, but his legacy will be forever remembered as a lifelong advocate for Indigenous solidarity. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and the community of Kahnawá:ke.
