Oct 5, 2021

AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and Health Services reported one (1) new positive COVID-19 case, which is the lowest reported in nearly two weeks. We are pleased that six (6) community members have been released from isolation however, 23 total active cases remain in Akwesasne’s southern portion. Two (2) family members and friends are hospitalized due to severe symptoms. Through contact tracing, there are 25 community members in quarantine at home. We ask that you join in wishing everyone who has been or continues to be impacted by COVID-19 best wishes for a safe and complication-free recovery.

With the spread of misinformation on social media, we urge individuals to only get their information from credible, peer-reviewed sources; such as the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention, New York State Department of Health, or World Health Organization. Your decision to get vaccinated is important, so please do not base it on an individual’s Facebook post. Please trust scientists and doctors who have spent much of their life educating and protecting public health.

As a reminder, contact tracers have been busy following-up on exposures and providing notifications, so if you suspect exposure to a positive case please self-quarantine and monitor symptoms. Self-monitor for early symptoms that include diarrhea, fever, cough, tiredness, or loss of taste or smell. If any of these symptoms develop, please call your healthcare provider for guidance.

There continues to be community spread, with no identified source of infection. As a result, please treat everyone as if they are positive. Please wear a mask in all public places, wash your hands often, avoid large gatherings, social distance, stay in your immediate bubble, and stay home if you are sick.
