Tribe Makes Changes to Mask Requirement

Jun 8, 2021

AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center is reminding community members and guests that masks must still be worn where they are required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulation. In recognizing the efforts of the community in obtaining their vaccinations, in combination with the recent low COVID-19 cases, the EOC is making changes to the Mask Requirements in the following areas:

Outdoor Mask Requirement

Individuals who are fully vaccinated are not required to wear a mask outdoors. Those who are not vaccinated are required to wear masks when six-foot social distancing cannot be maintained.

Indoor Mask Requirement Remains in Effect

Regardless of vaccination status, individuals are still required to wear a mask in all public indoor places within the Tribe’s jurisdiction, including at local businesses and workplaces. Until more community members get vaccinated, people are still encouraged to wear masks when social distancing is not possible, as it is an important safety measure to help prevent the spread of the virus.

Wearing a mask also helps protect those who cannot receive the vaccine due to age or health condition, as well as practicing social distancing, and washing your hands frequently with soap and water or using hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.

If you have a non-emergency matter, please call the Emergency Operations Center at (518) 320-0019; Monday-Friday, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
