Tribe’s EOC Reports 1 New COVID-19 Case: 9 Total Active

Feb 8, 2021

AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) is reporting one (1) new case of COVID-19 today — making nine (9) total active cases under the Tribe’s jurisdiction. Public health hasn’t reported any change to the number of family members and friends in quarantine, which remains at 24. None of our active cases have resolved since yesterday and one (1) of our relatives remains hospitalized due to symptoms.

The Tribes’ Health Services is continuing to receive a limited number of doses for the Moderna vaccine, which are being provided to elders ages 65-years old or more, High Risk Individuals, Essential Tribal Employees, and Essential Frontline Workers who are enrolled members living within our community’s Southern Portion or in the 15-mile radius of the Tribe.

Health Services notes that incoming phone calls have significantly increased from 8,000 each month to more than 11,000. To help route calls to the appropriate medical program, a direct line for testing results and vaccine scheduling has been created. Please call (518) 333-0230 and leave your first and last name, an active phone number, and your date of birth for a return phone call within 48 hours.

The Tribe is continuing to provide coronavirus testing, but one question being asked is “How often should someone get tested for COVID-19?” The answer is, individuals should only get tested if they are exhibiting symptoms or suspect they have been in contact with a positive case. There is no need to get tested every week if none of these have occurred. This will help ensure that the limited number of test kits we receive will be available for those who need it the most.

As a reminder, COVID-19 community drive-thru test collection resumes tomorrow on Tuesday, February 9th at the former-IGA Building beginning at 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., or while test supplies last. Akwesasne residents and employees can also schedule a test by contacting Mountain Medical Urgent Care in Malone at (518) 521-3322 or their facility in Massena at (315) 705-0700.

If you have a non-emergency matter, please call the Emergency Operations Center at (518) 320-0019; Monday-Friday, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
