Tribe’s EOC Reports 12 New COVID-19 Cases: 19 Total Active

AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center is reporting twelve (12) new cases of COVID-19 over the past two days under the Tribe’s jurisdiction. Two (2) community member were released from isolation however, nineteen (19) total active cases remain in Akwesasne’s southern portion. One active case is travel-related, but the remainder are transmissions among unvaccinated individuals, which highlights the need for everyone to please get vaccinated. There also remains ten (10) family members and friends in quarantine at home to prevent any further spread.

New findings issued by the U.S. Center for Disease Control continue to highlight the benefits of being fully vaccinated. Individuals are reminded however, that the vaccine’s full effectiveness does take place until two weeks after the second shot. Until then, individuals who are awaiting their second dose, as well as those who are unvaccinated, need to remain vigilant and exercise precautions. If you are sick or exhibit COVID-19 symptoms, please quarantine, get tested, and follow public health guidance.

COVID-19 WALK-IN VACCINE CLINICS – WEDNESDAY, MAY 5TH

Saint Regis Mohawk Health Services is conducting COVID-19 Walk-in Moderna Vaccine Clinics every Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the former-IGA Building located at 850 State Route 37 in Akwesasne. The next Walk-in Clinic is Wednesday, May 5th and is open for all individuals 18-years or older who are interested in receiving their first dose (Prime) of the Moderna Vaccine.

For 16 and 17-year old who are interested in receiving the Pfizer Vaccine, a Walk-in Vaccine clinic will be held on Friday, May 7th from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the former-IGA Building. You may also contact Health Services to schedule an appointment by calling (518) 333-0230. Please leave your name and telephone number for a health worker to contact you. A parent must be present for the appointment.

COVID-19 TEST COLLECTION – MONDAY, MAY 3RD

Beginning on Monday, May 3rd; Saint Regis Mohawk Health Services will be conducting COVID-19 PCR Test Collection Clinics at their main campus located at 404 State Route 37 in Akwesasne, NY. Their new testing facility is located between the Tribe’s Food Distribution and Maintenance Garage. A drive-thru format will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., or while test kits last, Monday through Friday for all community members and employees of the Tribe, Mohawk Council of Akwesasne, Akwesasne businesses, and school districts.

Akwesasne residents and employees can also schedule a COVID-19 test by contacting Mountain Medical Urgent Care in Malone at (518) 521-3322 or Mountain Medical Urgent Care in Massena at (315) 705-0700. The PCR Test is free however, requests to receive a Rapid Test is at the individual’s expense. Please note that individuals who awaiting test results cannot receive a vaccination.
