Tribe’s EOC Reports No New Cases, No Active, No Quarantined

May 20, 2021

AKWESASNE — The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Emergency Operations Center is reporting no new cases or any active cases in the southern portion of Akwesasne. Two community members have been removed from isolation and there are no individuals in quarantine. These are the lowest numbers since the first positive case was reported in Akwesasne on March 28, 2020. We extend appreciation to everyone for doing their part in keeping our community safe.

As a result of the reduction in case numbers and other factors, the EOC announced changes earlier today for the Tribe’s travel restrictions and size of outdoor gatherings. Effective on Friday, May 21st, the Tribe’s 300-mile travel radius will be removed and asymptomatic individuals will not be required to quarantine upon their return — only symptomatic individuals will need to quarantine and get tested no sooner than seven (7) days after developing symptoms.

Individuals are asked to please research your destinations and avoid travel to hot spots that are experiencing a positivity rate of more than 10 percent. The positivity rate can be found on the John Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center website at https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/testing/individual-states.

Additionally, the size of outdoor gatherings has been increased to 50 people, but unvaccinated individuals are required to wear a mask when they are within six (6) feet from others. All individuals however, regardless of vaccination status, are still required to wear a mask indoors at all public places, businesses, stores, and other locations where maintaining a safe distance of six (6) feet is not possible.

Please get vaccinated when you have the opportunity. Saint Regis Mohawk Health Services is conducting a Walk-in Vaccine Clinic for individuals 18-years old or older every Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the former-IGA Building located at 850 State Route 37 in Akwesasne. Follow the Tribe’s Facebook page for other vaccine sites being held throughout the area.

If you have a non-emergency matter, please call the Emergency Operations Center at (518) 320-0019; Monday-Friday, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
