Hogansburg Bridge Work Commenced

Jul 12, 2023

AKWESASNE -- On behalf of the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT), the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe is notifying travelers and Akwesasne residents of work being conducted on the bridge at the St. Regis River. The work commenced this week by Tuscarora Construction, who was contracted by the New York State Department of Transportation.

The bridge work was initially scheduled to take place last year however, due to unfavorable weather conditions it was delayed until this summer. The work entails inspection and reinforcement of concrete footers for the bridge piers. To reach the work site a stone causeway has been constructed from Sken:nen Park on Gray Street upstream to divert water around the footers.

The project duration is eight to nine weeks and is not expected to impact travelers. If work should extend onto the roadway, the contractor will abide by all NYSDOT Work Zone Traffic Control Regulations to help direct travelers.

Throughout the construction period, Sken:nen Park shall be closed as heavy equipment will be positioned there and on the causeway. For safety reasons, the public is prohibited from entering the construction zone.

Upon completion of the work, Tuscarora Construction will repair any areas disturbed during construction and will turn over the causeway stone to the Tribe’s Planning and Infrastructure Division.

For any questions or more information, please contact Tom Delles, Tuscarora Construction at (315) 298-5147 or (315) 771-5342.
