Tribe Donates to New Akwesasne Freedom School Building Project

AKWESASNE -- Alongside Tribal Council, Akwesasne Freedom School (AFS) students and staff showed their excitement at a check presentation to honor Tribal Council’s pledge of $2 Million from the Community Development Fund for the new Akwesasne Freedom School’s Building project as approved in TCR 2022-07. The presentation was held on Onerahtohkó:wa/May 19, 2023 at the new site of the school, located off State Route 37 at 60 Freedom Way, in East Akwesasne.

“It is truly an honor to help in creating a safe and efficient learning environment for our most precious gifts – our children,” stated Tribal Chief Michael Conners.

“The Akwesasne Freedom School has been a priority of the Council’s, and it was chosen as a recipient of Community Development funding following feedback after a community callout from Tribal members to help identify much needed community projects,” said Tribal Chief Ron LaFrance.
