SUMMARY: Incumbent shall be responsible for constructing, erecting, installing, or repairing structures and fixtures made of comparable materials, such as concrete forms; building frameworks, including partitions, joists, studding, and rafters; and wood stairways, windows, and door frames, and hardwood floors. May also install cabinets, siding, drywall, and batt or roll insulation.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Knowledge of the construction, installation, and repair of structures made from wood and other materials.
- Perform many tasks from small homes to remodeling components and all aspects of building a house – framing walls and partitions, putting in doors and windows, building stairs, installing cabinets, painting, roofing, masonry, woodwork, and other tasks.
- Measures and marks the location of studs, leaders, and receptacle openings, using a tape measure, a template, and markers.
- Ability to work from blueprints and give instructions to workers on the layout, measuring, marking, and arranging materials.
- Ability to cut and shape wood, plastic, fiberglass, drywall using hand and power tools, chisels, planer, saws, drill, and sanders.
- Knowledge of repairing or replacing windows, ceiling tiles, doors, cabinets, plumbing, flooring, and carpets.
- Installation and/or repair wiring, electrical, and electronic components.
- Follow established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment.
- Installs prefabricated windows and doors, insulation, wall, ceiling, and floor panels or siding, using adhesives, hosts, hand tools, and power tools.
- Removes damaged or defective parts or sections of the structure and repairs or replaces, using hand/power tools.
- Carry out other relevant duties as required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: There are no supervisor requirements for this position.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Building and Construction – Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses.
Mathematics: Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications in the repair of homes.
Mechanical – Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Plumbing – Knowledge of methods, materials, and tools in the performance of basic plumbing installation.
Equipment Maintenance – Ability to perform routine maintenance on gasoline/diesel-burning equipment as assigned.
Preparation – Ability to read and comprehend detailed instructions and diagrams in the performance of duties.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma, or vocational training, a one-year certificate from a college of technical school;
OR
- Three to five years of related experience and/or training;
OR
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Physical ability to lift up to 50lb
- Travel to off-site locations may be required
- Use of safety equipment will be required
- Hazards associated with the trade
- Work both indoors and outdoors, in heat and cold variable conditions
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations in a fast-paced, fluid environment. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license in accordance with the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Fleet Policy.
