SUMMARY:  The Custodial Supervisor is responsible for the planning, organization, and supervision of the day-to-day operation of the Custodial Services Unit to assure that the highest degree of quality, care, sanitation and housekeeping services are performed by custodians that is consistent throughout Tribal facilities. The Custodial Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the supervision of two Crew Leaders and indirectly supervises the entire staff of the program. Responsibilities include verifying and approving staffing scheduling, assures that personnel who are responsible for cleaning assigned areas are properly trained and equipped in order to perform their assigned duties. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: 

  • Perform regular inspections of the Tribal facilities for sanitary condition, standards of cleanliness, site condition and order,
  • Monitor the care and use of supplies and equipment, to include ordering of program supplies and materials, regular inventory control and onsite reviews of custodial supplies, equipment and storage area locations, to include spot checking storage rooms, utility and janitorial closets, etc., for upkeep, supply and control,
  • To ensure the custodial staff adhered to and follow established safety policy and guidelines program identified for proper cleaning, and that approved cleaning techniques are used in performance of assigned duties,
  • To ensure that the proper use of tools and equipment are consistent with manufacture recommendations and that all equipment is properly maintained and serviced according to manufacture recommendations,
  • To train as required, and or oversee training program for custodial service team to ensure training is current and relevant,
  • To hold regular conference and interview meetings with the Crew Leaders and custodial team members to ensure staff have the training and equipment needed so they can respond effectively to day to day and or emergency service requests promptly,
  • To have the team trained and properly equipped in the effective sanitation measures related to prominent health advisories or protocols such as Covid 19 and others as issued by the organization,
  • Approves the work schedules for the custodial staff.
  • Reviews, monitors and approves employees time sheets, confirms accruals and approves and or denies leave requests based on staffing requirements for the day-to-day operations.
  • Stay current with new operating methods and incorporate them into existing custodial practices as necessary, maintains and updates Custodial Procedures guidelines annually,
  • Establish protocols and standard operating procedures for sanitation process such as, general cleaning, sanitizing furnishings, proper use of floor and buffing equipment, use of special cleaning solutions and disinfectants to prevent the spread of disease/contaminates
  • Reviews annually and maintains a current inventory record of all Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for cleaning materials used at any location, ensures that this binder is readily available and easily accessed for viewing,
  • Ensures staff are trained in Safety Data Sheet and safe handling of cleaning materials,
  • Maintains active inventory of supplies, forecasts use of materials and submits purchase requisitions for related supplies and equipment,
  • Submits receiving reports to the Facilities Director on major purchases and to Facilities Administrative Assistant for processing to finance for day-to-day general cleaning materials supply,
  • Submits work orders for repairs to the maintenance program when work/ service needs are identified by any custodial service team member,
  • Reviews program service requirements and proposes equipment and supply purchases for the annual budget process specific to custodial staff, service and supply needs, to the Facilities Manager.
  • Maintains keys sign in/out return program for identified facilities as assigned for offices in secure areas and coordinates electronic Fob/card swipe access for staff,
  • Reviews in detail potential disciplinary measures with Crew Leaders as relates to all staff within the custodial services program, maintains daily oversight of proposed discipline, when necessary, of the custodial staff, and takes the lead when required, consults with the Director and Human Resources as needed for direction and recommendations,
  • Maintains an effective working knowledge of the Employee Handbook and to ensure employees are notified and updated when changes have been approved or are enacted,
  • Communicate with co-workers to ensure sufficient planning for custodial services and activities.
  • Attend all required meetings and provide input and recommendations.
  • Contribute to assigned committees.
  • Participates when required in winter weather conditions, snow removal on walkways and driveways, reviews and participates when needed for sanding and salting of sidewalks at entry ways when assistance is required,
  • Will advise and or assist in the delivery of sand, salt materials to ensure proper supply of materials are on site in sand/ salt bins at identified locations,
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Carries out Supervisory responsibilities in accordance with organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training of employees.  Supervises two direct report Crew Leaders in planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Indirectly supervises all other Custodial personnel. The Supervisor will be required to adjust work schedules intermittently to accommodate and attend to sites after normal work hours as may be required from time to time.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 

  • One- year certificate from college or technical school related to the position, WITH
    • Three (3) years prior supervisory experience
  • Equivalent combination of education, supervisory experience and training.

  • Physical ability to lift up to 50lb
  • Travel to off-site locations may be required

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations in a fast-paced fluid environment.   Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license in accordance with the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Fleet Policy.
