SUMMARY: The Dentist under the direction of the supervising dentist will work collaboratively with department staff to perform dental related functions by examining, diagnosing and treating dental problems to maintain and restore oral health.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for providing direct clinical services.
- Provide dental care (screenings, sealants, ITR/temporaries, fluoride varnish, OHI…) at off site locations such as Head Start, Boys and Girls Club, Local schools, Senior Center… and home visits at the Health Directors request.
- Participate in developing programs to promote dental health and disease prevention as a public health mandate.
- Performing comprehensive dental exams, which shall include:
- Review radiographs (FMX, Panorex, Bitewings)
- Review health history at every visit
- Periodontal screening exam with Periodontal Diagnosis
- Clinical exam of all soft and hard tissues in the oral cavity
- Oral cancer screening
- TMJ screening
- Ortho screening (under age 20)
- Review radiographs (FMX, Panorex, Bitewings)
- All clinical and radiographic findings will be charted on a treatment plan form.
- A treatment plan will be discussed with the patient prior to starting dental work.
- Will work with an assistant on a daily basis to perform dental procedures.
- Will adhere to universal precautions at all times.
- Will complete progress report for every procedure performed.
- Consult with Specialists when appropriate.
- Abide by the Saint Regis Mohawk Health Services Department and Personnel policies.
- This position requires excellent diagnostic skills and the ability to triage, diagnose, and manage a broad spectrum of oral/dental diseases and disabilities in a patient population with a high percentage of medically compromised individuals.
- The duties and responsibilities include delivering high-quality, cost-effective dental care to a diverse patient population, which requires up-to-date knowledge, skills, licensure, and experience as a dentist.
- The position also requires skill in maintaining effective work relationships with patients, members of the treatment team, the community, and other services in the organization.
- The knowledge and use of computer systems related to patient care are pertinent.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Dentist will be responsible for the supervision of the Dental Staff when the Supervising Dentist is out of the office.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Active, current licensure as a DMD/DDS in the State of New York.
OR
- Recent graduate from an accredited dental school and eligible for NYS licensure within 3 months of hire date.
PREFERRED
- Current unrestricted license in New York State as a DMD/DDS WITH
- 2 years’ experience in pediatric dentistry.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Strong oral and written communication skills required. Must have excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel, and experience with various databases. He/she must maintain appropriate NY licensing and credentials, including attending continuing education for such credentials, and maintaining ALL NYS Mandated certifications and Certificates.
