SUMMARY: Under the guidance and direction of the Agriculture Program Laborer Supervisor, the summer field technician will learn about and support of the functions of the Agriculture Program. The summer field technician will also be engaged in a research initiative to demonstration how agricultural management is entwined with language and culture. This role will support an inter-tribal exchange of traditional ecological knowledge with individuals from other Haudenosaunee and Wabanaki Tribes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
- Serve as a member of the Agriculture Program laborer field-crew to support seasonal activities such as planting, maintaining, and harvesting produce, and taking care of livestock animals.
- Maintain safety protocols when operating any tools or equipment.
- Collect environmental data or sample while documenting information as related to operations, which may include entering, recording, storing, or maintaining data in written or electronic form.
- Conduct an individual research project based on traditional foods and practices, their use, and their application to cultural practices or the Mohawk language.
- Participate in cultural exchange camps with other tribal youth and natural resource professionals.
- Mandatory travel to participate in the Wabanaki Cultural Exchange Camp (July 27- August 3, 2025).
- Be able to present individual research project at the end of the season.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: There are no supervisor requirements for this position.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: Due to the unique nature of this specific Grant Funded position, the requirements are as follows:
- Currently enrolled as a college student for the fall of 2025, applicant can be an incoming Freshman but cannot be a recent graduate; AND
- Applicant must be an enrolled member of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe
- Applicant must be willing and able to travel to Maine and New Hampshire during specific periods of time (Approximately July 27 – August 3, dates may move as needed).
