Aug 30, 2011

On August 25, 2011, The Aboriginal People’s Choice Music Awards (APCMA) announced that Vincent Schilling has been nominated for Aboriginal People’s Choice Music Award for his Radio show. Schilling hosts the “Native Trailblazers” talk radio show. “I am thrilled to be a nominee for such a prestigious award, yet I am humbled by this recognition in Canada and in the United States,” said Schilling. “It’s funny, because I began Native Trailblazers as a hobby. I genuinely wanted to highlight all of the amazing contributions of indigenous people and those helping indigenous people. I never expected this level of recognition.”

The nomination process took place from July 15 to August 18, 2011. Music fans and industry stakeholders cast more than 21,000 votes to select nominees in 12 categories.

The Native Trailblazers is an online BlogTalkRadio program airing live every Friday evening at 7:00 pm (EST) Past guests include Wayne Newton, Grammy winning musicians Bill Miller, Micki Free and Mary Youngblood, Secretary of Tribal Affairs for the USDA and the Department of Commerce. Award-winning Native American and Aboriginal Canadian Musicians Michael Bucher, Gabriel Ayala, Derek Miller, Shane Yellowbird and Leela Gilday have also been past guests. Since the show debuted in November 2009, nearly 14,000 listens have tuned in.

“Many people in today’s world don’t realize the scope of contributions of today’s Native American and Aboriginal Canadian people,” explained Schilling. “But the guests on my show have been Olympic and professional athletes, Grammy and other award-winning musicians, world leaders, teachers, PhD candidates and other true Native Trailblazers making a real difference in this world.”
