Tribe Issues Ban on Burning

Jul 16, 2012

COMMUNITY ANNOUNCEMENT - The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe has issued a ban on all types of outdoor fires, including brush burning, campfires and/or fireworks. The ban is being issued due to the extremely dry conditions and possibility of wildfires. Last week, the Hogansburg-Akwesasne Volunteer Fire Department responded to several brush fires in the area. The ban is to ensure fire safety and protect community members, properties and buildings. Holders of current burn permits must adhere to the burn ban and will be notified in writing when burning is once again permissible.
