The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe Mourns the Loss of Tribal Court Administrator

Jan 30, 2014

The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe is deeply saddened to note the passing of Dr. Barbara Gray. Dr. Gray was the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Court Administrator/Court Attorney and it was through her efforts that many of the programs initiated at the SRMT Court were undertaken. Dr. Gray’s efforts included the funding to establish the SRMT Healing to Wellness Drug Court, securing start-up funding for the Child Support Unit, and support programs.

Chief Judge P.J. Herne shared professional achievements that significantly impacted the SRMT Court, “Dr. Gray earned both her Juris Doctorate Degree and Ph.D. form Arizona State University. During her tenure, she utilized both of these degrees in her work with the SRMT Court. Much of her research made its way into decisions of the Court which are now being cited by practitioners in front of court.”

On a personal side, Dr. Gray was a noted craft artisan who earned awards through her 'black ash’ creations. Immensely modest, her mother Beedy often displayed Dr. Grays work and shared the accompanying accolades that she’d earned. She will be sorely missed by the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe and the Court. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends.
