Public Notice: Land Ordinance Meetings

The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Council along with the Tribal Clerk invites Tribal Members to the (3) community meeting for comment and review on the draft of the New Land Ordinance.

The revised Land Ordinance will replace the current Land Dispute Ordinance.

The most significant changes to the Land Dispute Ordinance are as follows:

A.There will no longer be a Land Dispute Tribunal that will hear Land Disputes.

B. All land disputes will be heard by the Tribal Court.

C.The new ordinance contains provisions for community members to submit land dispute complaints to the Court.

D.There is an option for Mediation of Claims.

E. Land Ordinance contains a section on Tribal Laws to decide land disputes cases.

F.Tribal Clerk will have the role of forwarding land and title records to the Tribal Court.

All cases before the effective date of the new ordinance will be heard by the Land Dispute Tribunal or the parties will have the option of refiling the case with Tribal court.

Dates for these meetings are as follows:

September 22, 2016 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.

October 4, 2016 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.

October 11, 2016 from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m.

All meetings will be held in the Lobby of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe.
