Akwesasne Flood Watch Advisory & Monitoring

With current weather conditions and the flooding hazards located within our surrounding areas, more specifically Montreal & Gatineau, Quebec and Franklin County and St. Lawrence County, New York, the Mohawk Council of Akwesasne along with the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe continue to monitor Akwesasne’s water levels along the St. Lawrence River and its adjoining waterways.

Communities across the Northeast have been dealing with fallout from heavy spring rainfall.

News reports include more snow flurries, rain and fluctuating temperatures that may increase the likelihood and the severity of localized flooding. It's important to be prepared for flooding no matter where you live, but particularly if you are in a low-lying area, near water or downstream from a dam. Even a very small stream or dry creek bed can overflow and create flooding. Be safe! Be prepared! Here’s what you can do:

  • Please report any flooding on your property that poses a possible threat;
  • Ensure that your sump pumps are working properly;
  • Keep children away from waterways, low shorelines and flooded ditches;
  • Please check your neighbors, especially if they are elderly or the infirmed;
  • Avoid water-covered roadways; and
  • Be especially cautious at night while traveling;

At this time, the Akwesasne Mohawk Police Services (AMPS) and the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribal Police (SRMTP) are monitoring water levels. Should you have any concerns or need to report any potential flooding within Akwesasne, please contact the following:
