Nov 20, 2013

The Salmon River School Board is holding a special election on December 3, 2013. The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe encourages voter participation in support of the candidate representing Akwesasne. Emily Lauzon has thirteen years of experience as a board member for the Salmon River Central School District. She believes in the importance of having Native representation on the Board of Education to ensure our children and families’ voices are part of decisions made on behalf of our district. Emily strongly emphasizes the importance of strengthening the relationship between the Board of Education and the Mohawk Education needs and has stated she will work diligently to bring collaboration between these two entities. Most importantly, Emily believes in giving the student’s a voice by being an advocate for their rights, safety and concerns.

“It is extremely important that our community members that are eligible to vote do so in each and every election. We need to become more involved in the education that our students receive. By participating in the process, we will work together to build a stronger voice in our children’s education. I encourage our community to invest in our future leaders,” comments the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe’s Executive Director of Education, Stephanie I. Cook.

The Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe reminds eligible voters to exercise your right to vote on Tuesday December 3, 2013 at the Salmon River Center School polls.
